I am looking forward to another year of discussing writing
and books. As always, comments are very welcome. In the next several months, I
hope to finish my first novel and beginning the arduous task of finding the
right publishing format and publisher. I
plan to examine the pitfalls of the process that is faced by all new writers.
Again I wish to thank all of you who have read and provided feedback on my
site. Here’s wishing for another great year. Cheers!

Writing of a Novel
Many times I’ve
fought the urge to start a new novel even though I haven’t finished my current
project. Sometimes ideas pull with such force, but I have tried to ignore new
ideas and concentrate on finishing one story before moving on to the next. I
recently gave into a desire to start writing a second book. My first is only
about sixty percent complete. Hope I can handle writing two completely
different books at the same time!

Writing of a Novel, Half Way There!
Halfway There!
The summer has
been a drag upon my writing. Work, fun and adding content to this site have all
but devoured my time needed finishing my novel. I have however been able to
complete chapters 33 through 35. Halfway there! Good luck in your own writing
in whatever form it may be.

Writing of a Novel
Time Well Spend.
I forced myself
to push off my other projects and reserved time to write. I breezed through the
formerly blocked chapter 31 of my novel. Even finished chapter 32 and began 33.
So after a delay due to other obligations, I moved ahead in a short amount of
time. My motivation to keep writing has never been a problem; it’s time that
always seems in such short supply.

Writing of a Novel
Breezed through
writing chapters 29 and 30 of my first novel. Chapter 31 has created a wall
that seems impassable. I’m going to try to write today and see where that leads
me.

Improving one's writing:
I have been
surfing the web quite a bit lately, seeing what others have to say about how to
improve one’s writing. There is plenty of information out there, some are lists
of techniques used by other successful authors and some are helpful comments added
by quests. I was struck that few people notes the power of reading as being
extremely influential in helping create a better writer. I made frequent
comments that reading is the most important activity, short of actually
writing, that a writer can do to improve their own writing.

Writing of a Novel
Another twelve
hour shift made getting any writing done very difficult, but I was able to
spend some time on my novel. I began chapter 28 this evening. I wish to be able
to provide the depth of a Charles Dickens’ character, so that I can then give
the details of their maiming and murder. With pen and paper, the options are
infinite. As they say, inspiration only strikes if you are applying the craft.
Today inspiration brought two minor characters back together, who in earlier
chapters was made obvious of their drifting apart.

Writing of a Novel
I began writing a novel in September of 2011. I’ve completed
140 pages of the first draft. Because of time restraints, it has been difficult
to spend the hours I need to complete this work. My resolution for this year is
to complete this novel. Although not my first attempt at writing a novel, I am
hoping that this will be my first to finish all the way to the end. I already
have passed up many new ideas in order to finish this one project. I guess I
have many writing ideas but little time to complete them. 27 Chapters
completed!
